We investigate different aspects related to freshwater systems. These include studies of the i) demographic characteristics of various species of zooplankton (rotifers, cladocerans and copepods), ii) the effects of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins on zooplankton, iii) the cultivation of zooplankton as live food for young fish, and amphibians, particularly those that are in danger of extinction, iv) limnology, v) management of lakes to improve water quality, vi) interactions between zooplankton, vii) study of aquatic invasive species, and viii) zooplankton as indicators of the river water quality.

Student initiatives are promoted in the design of experiments and the communication of the results for their presentation and publication in national and international forums and journals.

Prospective Thesis Candidate Profile:Students who wish to work in this laboratory must be interested in their line of research with great interest in scientific reading, work hard, always with curiosity and pleasure, and they must be cordial and help their classmates. If they do not have knowledge of English, they should be interested in learning and practicing the language in the laboratory, since it is essential for scientific communication.
Service Social Data:Social service -Ecology and ecotoxicology of zooplankton;

Key: 2018-12 / 63-274

The objectives of the program are:

Estimate the demographic characteristics of various species of zooplankton (rotifers, cladocerans, and copepods).

Analyze the effect of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins on zooplankton.

Study the demographic response of zooplankton to toxic compounds and drugs.

Evaluate the potential of zooplankton as live food for young fish and amphibians.
